Common questions

Are the tools really free?

Yes. No account, no email, no affiliate links. They run in your browser and send nothing to us.

Do I need the app to use the tools?

No. The tools work on their own. The app is for keeping the numbers up to date once you've got started.

Is this official advice?

No. We link to government and Red Cross guidance and show where each figure comes from, but this is an independent site.

Why are there UK and US versions?

The advice differs. The UK talks about 3 litres of drinking water and 8°C in a power cut, while US guidance talks about a gallon of water and 40°F. So each country gets its own version.
